It was Christmas Night and all through the city, not a restaurant was open, not even Grubstake. So I ended up at this little Chinese restaurant on Polk Street. I would have been better off starving. So I went in with my brother and my boyfriend, who ordered some pork dish, while my brother ordered kung pao chicken, and I ordered a mock meat dish, which the waitress compared to kung pao chicken. Our appetizers -- they got pork potstickers and I got vegetarian potstickers and green onion pancakes -- were OK; they liked theirs and I liked the potstickers, but wasn't crazy about the pancakes. They were too much like crispy tortillas with very little filling and smothered in a peanut sauce, which would have been OK on its own, but it was just too overwhelming for the flimsy pancakes. Then our entrees came. The waitress brought me the "meatless chicken" dish and I verified with her that it was indeed that. She said "yes." Then my brother got his "chicken" dish and my boyfriend his pork dish.My boyfriend spent half the time frustratingly picking the onions and bell peppers off his dish, while my brother and I dug into our dishes. Or I should say, I did. My brother was just not into his dish, but I was eating mine. I kept saying how even though it's been 20 years since I've eaten chicken, my dish really tasted like it. But I've had a lot of mock meat that does, so it wasn't too surprising. Finally I asked my boyfriend and brother to taste it to see how amazing it is, and they were like, "We think that's chicken." My brother was then convinced that the reason he didn't like his dish was because it isn't.So I called the waitress and asked her if my dish is indeed chicken or not and somehow the story changed and she said it's not. I asked her why she said something different when she initially placed it in front of me. She said she needed to call another waitress to help me.When the other waitress came, I explained that not only do I not eat meat, but also being Jewish, I was extra annoyed, because it was non-kosher meat (as if she knows what that means!). All she said was that the chef must have mixed up the orders. She then just tried to switch our plates (as if we couldn't do that on our own). I just told her to take my plate away, of which I only ate 1/5, and to just take it off the bill. She took it away and said, "OK."Of course when we got the bill the dish was still on it. We asked the waitress about it and she said that I had eaten a lot of it (not true), so that's why we're being charged for it. I said that's unacceptable and she said she'd talk to her boss. Finally she came back and it was taken off. That was little compensation. A simple apology would have gone a lot further for me.I'm not one of those vegetarians who freaks out about stuff like this and whines that I now have a graveyard in my stomach or need to throw up for three days to get the chicken out of my system. I have perspective. But I am someone who had an annoying experience, who feels that people should make up for their mistakes -- at bare minimum with an apology.

Delivery was fast, order-taker over the phone was quick and accurate.Only read this review if you have any intention of ordering their wonton soup or wor wonton soup. Otherwise, skip this review as it adds no value to your life.I take back my ode to Wor Wonton soup which, thanks to yelp's policy of allowing only the rating for my most recent review count towards the business' average rating, makes me feel undeservedly self-important, like managers everywhere during their employees' evaluation time.I only wish I could take back my order earlier this week for not 1 but 2 Wor Wonton soups, just like I wish I could go back in time and take back my health and my youth.I may not be able to help you with your health or youth issues but I can save you from the bad in Wor Wonton soup, specifically the Wontons. It's been a while since I've ordered from them as my fave dish is their Wor Wonton soup, which I order only if it's rainy and cold. I would even order it for lunch delivery in the Financial District during wet weather and everyone at work would regret not ordering with me when I asked them if they were in or not. Here's what is still delicious about the Wor Wonton soup:1. can replace beef with decent quality chicken2. contains juicy shrimp, although in smaller quantities3. has baby bok choy3. same amazing ginger with green onion broth.HALLOWEEN COMES EARLYHere's what has changed for the worse:A. Replaced wontons filled with pork and chives/green onions with some kind of mystery meat that tastes gross.MYSTERY MEAT - WHOSE MURDER IS IT?I don't eat mystery meat if I can tell it's mystery meat. Ground meat at a restaurant is considered mystery meat in my eyes. I don't like meat scrapings. No hot dogs from the non-licensed vendor on the corner of Mission and whatever for me. No hand rolls using scraped fish pieces because who knows what type of fish I'm really getting. And definitely no packaged ground meat from the local grocery store. I'd rather eat vegetarian food. Now, I'm not saying that there's not some savvy food entrepreneur who hasn't sold me a false bill of goods, telling me that I'm eating a certain animal or animal part when it's (fill in unappetizing flesh here). But I go out of my way to avoid mystery meat and do whatever I can to know what I'm eating, ever since some fly-over-state coworkers thought they'd try to pull one over me by having me try Rocky Mountain Oysters which have NOTHING to do with Oysters - luckily the waiter took pity on me and warned me off the Rocky Mountain Oysters. The reason why I say that the wontons are filled with mystery meat is because it's ground meat, ground so fine it's impossible to tell what it was unless you send it for analysis at a lab. And it doesn't taste like the pork that I'm used to eating at Chinese restaurants, but maybe that's because I DON'T ORDER GROUND PORK at Chinese restaurants.MYSTERY MEAT HELPS CONTROL PORTION SIZE IN TIME FOR HOLIDAY DIETINGI was greedy and I had ordered two Wor Wonton Soups for two separate meals. It was so bad that both soups turned into 4 meals even after I had picked out all the wontons out of the soup since they just grossed me out so much.TURNING JAPANESEIt will be a while before I go out to try a wor wonton soup anywhere. for now, I think I will stick to the chicken and veggie and egg udon soup at one local japanese restaurant or the veggie soba soup at another as that's what I've been using to cleanse my palate for the last two days since you know what.

But this is one of the worst chinese foods ive ever had...order the chow fun chicken and combination fried rice. both were super bland, and the chow fun wasn't even fully cooked. chunks of it were still stuck together and stiff. i had to soak it in sriracha and soy sauce and it was still barely edible...i would suggest ah lin for your chinese takeout needs in the area, sorry bamboo! :(

It was great to hear that this restaurant wasn't trying to push sales on us, and was willing to help us out.We ended up ordering:hot and sour soupsesame chickenwalnut prawnsI was not a fan of the hot and sour soup. It was overall, too spicy for my taste. S enjoyed it though! The sesame chicken and walnut prawns were both great. To be clear, this is takeout Chinese food, and I have to say it is reliably tasty, not as greasy as most places, and also has good delivery services. After the first dine-in experience, we have been mainly getting takeout from them, and they are quick everytime! There's only one other person sitting at the tables, but there's a waiter standing near the cash register."Sorry, we're closed", he says."But your menu says you're open until midnight", I say."Yeah, but only for take-out or delivery", he replies."Take-out is what I want", I say."Yeah, but it'll take about an hour", he replies."Really? Post walk of shame, hungover, and in need of food. In times like that, Americanized Chinese food always seems to fit the moment - fried and sauced. For that, Bamboo Restaurant seemed like a good choice for lunch but it ended up being slightly disappointing.Starting with the good points, you do get quite a bit of food for your money and you have the option of brown rice. The spring roll was nicely fried too. I had the General Cho's chicken lunch special (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…) and the killer for me was that it was sauced to death. And then more for good measure. To top it off, the sauce was just so viscous - the type of texture that makes it gummy and unappetizing. Combine all this with a heavy hand of vinegar in the sauce, you loose any and all subtlety in the dish.I'll hesitate to return but perhaps the other dishes are better? From what I saw on my friend's plate, I doubt it. Still the folks here were pretty nice which might warrant a return visit but there are probably better Chinese options around.

Not too bad! Was in the neighborhood after work one day and was craving some greasy Chinese food. I guess this happens more than I'd like to admit... Either way, Bamboo was close and it was awesome to find Crab Rangoon on their menu. Hard to find in the city, especially since it's not the most authentic thing you could order.Went into the restaurant to order take out and they served hot green tea while the food was being prepared. They have a turtle in an aquarium but it's really shy so I didn't bug it too much. A few homeless people walked in too, so they provided some entertainment as well.Kung Pao Chicken was delish! Not too spicy, not too bland. And the Rangoons were huge. Just how I like 'em.Why 3 stars? 'Cause it's nothing terribly memorable, but not gross or offensive either. Just good enough.

Off on an adventure, searching for Chinese food in the Nob Hill/Polk Street area, I'd heard good things about Bamboo. A friend had said several times that we'd check it out and I finally dragged a friend to it when looking for dinner Friday night. Despite it being 8 pm or so on a Friday, it wasn't busy at all. We were able to grab a seat quickly and get our food delivered toot sweet.Pros: extremely affordable prices ($24 for two of us and we both ordered a cup of hot and sour soup plus an entree each), extremely fast service, friendly and courteous wait staff (our waters were refilled often), complimentary tea, and fake meat options for the vegetarians (this is one of the things that *really* makes me happy with Chinese food restaurants, and it isn't as common to get as one would think!)Cons: the interior of the restaurant is pretty small, tables are almost side by side. Makes it a wee bit difficult for conversations that you don't want to share with the general public other than your dinner companions. Also, the menu seems to be a little bit mislabeled. I ordered the General Meatless Chicken and there were no chili pepper markers on it (which indicate spicy). My first bite had me coughing from the overwhelming vinegar and spiciness of it. It wasn't over-the-top spicy that I couldn't eat it, but it definitely wasn't mild in the least. As it hadn't been marked, I was a bit unprepared for the heat.I would happily go back here and think I might make this my general goto place for delivery from now on as it's just right around the corner. While the hot and sour soup isn't the best I've had, it's pretty damn good in general, and with the fake meat dishes, I'd be more than happy to try it again.

Great service - delivery is always on time and the employees are very easy to work with. This place is my go-to restaurant for catered employee dinners where I work. The food is good and the price is definitely reasonable. Every time I've called, the employees were always helpful and the delivery is on time (if not sometimes 5-10 minutes early), every single time. The only reason I'm reserving a 5-star rating is because they are not super on top of their serving sizes. Last time I called to ask about ordering trays for 30 to 35 people and the person on the phone recommended the medium-sized trays. When the food arrived, I took one look at it and realized that there wasn't going to be enough food. Low and behold, there wasn't enough and I ended up ordering 4 more large pizzas from a place down the street for everyone.
